From: Vice Chancellor Janina Montero and Vice Provost Judi Smith Subject: A New Survey About Your Undergraduate Experience
Dear UCLA Student, You may have recently received one or more invitations to participate in an important project that asks University of California students to give their views and assess their experiences as students. The research is being coordinated by the Center for Studies in Higher Education, with funding from the UC Office of the President and by campus Student Affairs organizations on all UC campuses. This research is called the 2004 University of California Undergraduate Experience Survey, or UCUES 2004. UCUES is part of a broader research project on the Student Experience in the Research University in the 21st Century based at the Center for Studies in Higher Education at UC Berkeley. Students from all eight UC undergraduate campuses have been invited to take part in this research. Your participation is voluntary and will not affect your relationship with the University; however, we need your input in order to get an accurate representation of students' responses. We think you will find filling out the on-line survey enjoyable and thought provoking. We can assure you that the data resulting from this project will be crucial to those of us—faculty, staff and students—who seek to make the undergraduate experience at the University of California as valuable as possible. We hope you will participate in this important survey. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Marc Levis-Fitzgerald, Office of Undergraduate Evaluation and Research, at mlevis@college.ucla.edu or Judith Richlin-Klonsky, Student Affairs Information and Research Office, at jrichlin@saonet.ucla.edu. Sincerely, Janina Montero Judith L. Smith
